The NRCP, led by its Executive Director, Dr. Marieta B. Sumagaysay (2nd from right) together with Ms. Cecille Baquireza and Beverly dela Cruz (3rd and 4th from right), was awarded the 3 Utility Model registrations for the new extraction of pectin from fruit wastes by Engr. Edgar I Garcia, TAPI Director (rightmost) and Atty. Marion Ivy D. Decena. Div. Manager of TAPI’s Invention Development Division.
Two (2) basic researches funded by the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) yielded new processes and had been awarded IP protection for Utility Model by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IP PHL) last January 29, 2017. Utility Model registrations were awarded for the new process on the extraction of pectin from wastes of three (3) fruits - pomelo, durian and jackfruit. Last 2014, a Utility Model registration was also given to the preservative treatment method of engineered bamboos.
