Foreign Guests at NRCP

A scientist and a science administrator from Malaysia visited NRCP on 17 June 2010. Dr. Rakmi Abd Rahman, Professor in the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering of the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, and Ms. Nor Azizah Tamsi, Special Officer to the Deputy Secretary-General of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation in Malaysia, who attended the 10th SCA Conference, made a side trip to NRCP in Bicutan, Taguig City, to know the functions of NRCP. They were welcomed by Dr. Alvin B. Culaba, current NRCP President, Dr. Olivia C. Caoili, former NRCP President and currently NRCP consultant for NRCP’s special projects, and Dr. Napoleon P. Hernandez, NRCP Executive Director, at the NRCP Conference Room where they viewed audio-visuals of the NRCP Story and received some technical publications. The foreign guests want to see differences and similarities between Philippine and Malaysian science and technology undertakings to improve their mechanisms and operational procedures. Both countries highly support basic research.

PSA Vice President Visits NRCP

Dr. Nancy Davis Lewis, Vice President of the Pacific Science Association (PSA) based in Honolulu, USA , and Director of the Research Program of the East West Center in Hawaii, visited NRCP on 10 June 2010, during which she met with Dr. Alvin B. Culaba, President, Dr. Zenaida G. Sadiwa, Governing Board’s Corporate Secretary, Dr. Napoleon P. Hernandez, Executive Director, and Mr. Salvador G. Tan, Chief of Research Management and Development Division. The meeting was cordial, which lasted for about an hour. To familiarize Dr. Lewis about NRCP, she viewed the NRCP story – what NRCP was before World War II and what it is today after 77 years of existence. Dr. Lewis’ visit was aimed at convincing NRCP to renew its partnership and active membership with PSA, which augurs well for the future of NRCP on international scientific collaboration. She remarked, “NRCP is welcome back with open arms by PSA”.

Filipino Savants Recognized
March 10, 2010, NRCP held its 77th NRCP General Membership Assembly at the Polkabal-Rigodon Halls of the Historic Manila Hotel and was attended by an estimated one thousand member researchers, scientists, and technologists from the different research institutions of the country. Aside from the plenary discussions which were anchored on the theme – Facing Challenges of Climate Change through Science and Technology, the recognition of 2009 eleven basic research achievers in different fields highlighted this scientific convention.
